ABOUT
"If you are not in the arena also getting your ass kicked, I'm not interested in your feedback."
Many people have asked about the name "Arena Group." I first have to fan girl out to Brené Brown. Her work has lifted me up from some of my darkest days, especially leading a team of educators through the pandemic. Several times over the past three years, friends from all over the world would send me a link to this part of Brene's talk (https://lnkd.in/gnDzm8eA). After every really hard decision I had to make, after being publicly shamed and dragged through the social media swamp, after crying myself to sleep in fear and sadness for what was happening in the world and within our organization, someone in my friend group would send me this link...it had to have been sent to me over 20 times...it was eerie. Finally, I was like, "okay, okay, I think I'm supposed to do something with this."

So, every time it was sent, I'd listen closely and imagine that Brene was talking to me. It gave me courage to continue. To move through criticism and hate from people who had no clue what it was like to lead emotionally drained educators with limited resources and guidance through a global pandemic. It was tough shit!
After a rock-bottom break down in Sept. 2022, I, once again, came back to Brene's message, particularly the part: "If you are not in the arena also getting your ass kicked, I'm not interested in your feedback." After a few weeks of working through shame and public humiliation, I decided that I wanted other leaders in early education and child care to know that they were not alone in the Arena. And, while we may not be able to stop the criticism from people in the cheap seats, we sure as hell can stand back to back and defend each other.
Cultivate.
Grow.
Inspire.

That is what Arena Group is about! Standing back to back with leaders, teachers/educators, and care providers in early education and child care, solving problems, creating healthy cultures, raising the bar of professionalism, taking a stand, and, most importantly, supporting each other!
We are in the Arena with you! We know what it's like to be in this space! You are not alone! We have our faces "marred by dust and sweat and blood!" We get it and we are standing with you working courageously and fiercely to educate and care for our next generation!
